I am sorry that Alt has attacked the country music bushel just because because there is a bad apple in it. I know nothing about the Dixie Chicks, but I do know something about Merle Haggard, George Jones, and George Strait, and I can’t believe that anyone of them would say anything like that. The Dixie Chicks is a punk-rock group, as far as I’m concerned. I will prevent Emily from listening to them ever again! Alt might want to listen to a few minutes of Merle’s "Okie from Muskogee" (at the bottom). Alt is too young to remember, but it was with this song that Merle stood up alone against the tides of America-hatred in the late sixties. There is plenty more such Country songs Alt; study your country’s history, you arrant, rascally, beggarly, lousy knave!

To compare the Dixie Chicks to Merle Haggard is to compare apples to oranges. They are each components of two VERY different music genres, and therefore a criticism of one has no bearing on the status of the other.
The Dixie Chicks are considered "New Country." Merle Haggard, George Jones et al are "Country Western." There’s a HUGE difference.
New Country, while an offshoot of Country Western, is a different beast altogether --- Different singers, different flavor, different style. It’s every bit as different as Grunge to Rock ’N Roll or Hip-Hop to Rap.
The Dixie Chicks are no more "Country Western" than Eminem’s music is considered Rock ’N Roll.
Let me be clear that I didn’t confuse "new" country or "country western" country, and given Schramm’s calling the Dixey Chicks "punk rock," I don’t think he did either. My difference with the other interlocutors is that I don’t think that either type of country is useful for anything other than getting information out of terrorists.
Simply put the dixie chicks are a bunch of skirts making so much money they are above earning respect they like many other entertainers demand respect and they never will find it,these types of sad people will never admit they made a mistake or a wrong statement,the good news is the American consumers will have their say in the end,I still cannot find anything that qualifys them to comment on this needed war,they like most intertainers have not the guts to go to war or ever even take a few years out of their lives to live the milatary life next to those that protect trash like the dipsey chicks yet they with their small minds will bash the very womem and men that give their lives so the dixie dips can live the free life and sell their product to our yound people,I believe that any person that has matured to adulthooh would never perchase what the dipsey chicks are selling,oh ya di I mention the dixie dips SUCK...........
