The silence about illegal immigration

Victor Davis Hanson calls for public conversation about the very large problem of illegal immigration. Along the way he chastizes both the libertarian right and the Latino elites for demanding de facto open borders. "The former prefer paying cheap wages to a perennial supply of hard-working unskilled laborers who live in the shadows of civic life, and cannot organize due to their illegal status. The latter see political capital in a large bloc of unassimilated potential voters who require group rather than individual representation."

I have a friend who has an interesting way of putting this argument into a different perspective. He suggusts that instead of calling them "illegal immigrants", call them "Mexican citizens." Try substituting it in the article, and I think you will find that the discussion takes on a new meaning.

Why would any one want de facto open borders when we already have de facto open borders.

What most people fail to ask is "if the new people are going to stay how do we turn them into 2nd Amendment Constitutional Citizens?"

Why not infect Mexico with Liberty and Responsibility? We must stop protecting America and start advancing it’s cause.
