Strengthening Constitutional Self-Government

Supremes uphold campaign finance laws

Here is the Reuters report on the Court’s decision. It is made up of eight seperate opinions and about 275 pages. Here is the full decision. Reuters says this: "It concluded the law’s two principal, complementary features -- Congress’ efforts to plug the soft-money loophole and its regulation of electioneering communications -- must be upheld in the main." Too bad.

I often tell my Democrat friends that there are three reason why I will vote for Bush: 1) WOT, 2) Tax cuts, and 3) and federal spending. Post-Farm and Medicare bills, I say "two outta three ain’t bad."

This blatant, direct assault on the First Amendment may cause me to re-examine my politics. This is a serious breach in our Republic, and the Bush/Rove team blew it big time on this one. What is the point of defending this country against the likes of an Osama bin Laden when one by one our freedoms are turned to stone like this?

Obviously this is a glorious day for the Left, and at the same time this will only cause them to hate and despise Bush even more...

Didn’t Ashbrook face this sort of dilemma with Nixon? I’m not sure I can come up with the same conclusion that he did. The EPA, OSHA and even the busing issue pale next to this hideous CFR bill, and new welfare drug tax on my kids. This is beyond sad, it’s tragic. I fear for my kids future.

I understand the need to subvert some freedom in time of war. What makes this CFR thing even tougher to swallow is that it has absolutely nothing to do with WOT. NOTHING!
