"He went all the way."

Thats how Mel Gibson described Christs death on the cross yesterday to a group of evangelical pastors gathered to preview "The Passion." Even the WaTimes article on the upcoming movie is inspiring. The movie, by the way, has been rated R and will be released Ash Wednesday, Feb. 25.

I think that its horrible that Gibson is being accused of making a movie that will promote anti-Semitism. Clearly, it is a great evil to call Jews "Christ-killers" and other such names as they have been throughout European history, suffering great evil. On the other hand, to deny that a group of Jews handed Christ over to Pontius Pilate is clearly wrong. A reasonable middle ground is to show the truth of what happened according to the Gospels in terms of the death and Resurrection of Jesus without making hateful generalizations about certain groups like Jews. After all, Jesus was Jewish himself and the reconciliation between many Catholics and Protestants with the Jews over the last fifty years has been a great step forward for humanity. This film, though I have not seen it
obviously, wouldnt seem by anything I have read to halt that progress.
I am eagerly awaiting the release of this movie, it has been talked about for a few years now. Should be fantastic.
