The importance of Ohio

Both Newsweek and the Los Angeles Times carry stories about the importance of Ohio in the election. Ohio has lost almost 250,000 jobs since 1999, most of it in manufacturing. Bush won Ohio by only four points in 2000. The Bush campaign, I am certain, understands the importance of the Buckeye State.

Good morning! I attended the Lincoln-Hayes Dinner in Bowling Green on Friday night. It was wonderful! The keynote speaker was Lynne Cheney and she was wonderfully eloquent and gracious! Our elected officials in Ohio are happy, generous folks - they stopped for pictures and chatted with everyone who approached them. You could feel the excitement in the room. I came away with a renewed purpose.

I’ve seen Kucinich’s commercials this week stating he will pull out of NAFTA if elected when it was Clinton who signed NAFTA in the first place, allowing companies to leave in unprecedented numbers. This president is not responsible for NAFTA nor the WTO. The Democrats are running scared because they DID endorse NAFTA and it is eroding one of their traditional voting blocs, the unions. When will they give up trying to cover their own tracks?

Mrs. Cheney reminded us that Kerry voted for three things he NOW opposes: The No Child Left Behind Act, the war in Iraq and basic military equipment like the Abrams tank used in Iraq. Look at his voting record - it speaks volumes. Kerry’s message rings hollow and shallow and I wonder if he would attend church other than to get a sound bite (he was in Cleveland on Ash Wednesday). He scares me and he should scare you.
