Excellent review. You may know that there are folks passing themselves off as Republicans who are spreading the poison of published Lincoln haters among the party faithful. A long-time friend of mine from undergraduate days at San Jose State and Claremont Graduate School recently brought to my attention an example of this stuff, mainly focusing on how Lincoln really did not emancipate any slaves with the Proclamation, that we have written pieces in response to. These works are not easily scotched, much less killed, but we are working at it. Your piece is especially good ammunition, as well as being excellent in its own right. Thanks.
