Al Sadr’s Northern Exposure

In the wake of the increased violence in Al Najaf, Muqtada al-Sadr is said to have issued a fatwah against the Coalition. Members of Sadr’s Mehdi army were reported to have been handing out weapons here in Tuz yesterday, and the mosque in Tuz was renamed as the Sadr Mosque. While there have been a couple of recent acts attributed to local thugs (including an attack yesterday on an Iraqi Civil Defense Corp Colonel), I have not seen any links between these attacks and the Mehdi Army.

Our son, and his outfit, B CO, 1-107th Armor - 30 BDE, 1ID just tranfered to FOB Bernstein on Sat, May 16.
If you run into SPC Dominic Mele, tell him his Father and Mother says "Hi" from Willoughby, Ohio.
I read your accounts of the operations all the time.

HI. Mr. and Mrs. Mele, (cool last name by the way). BY chance, is there a Sgt Sanders in your son’s plattoon? My brother is/has been at Bernstein for awhile now. Hes originally A-107th Armor based near Ravenna ( Newton Falls). Also, does the last name Galaska sound familiar?

Hi to Don Mele and Frank James! My husband, Sgt. Joseph Black is also there at Bernstein. He’s with Troop E, 196 CAV, 30th HSB 1st ID, originally C Company, 1 - 107th in Newton Falls! And I know Sgt. Sanders -- love his wife!!! :) Let me know if you all ever need anything! And Mr. James - please tell Sgt. Sanders I said hello! Yours truly, Alison Black
