California’s Field Poll

California Insider notes that the latest Field Poll is out, and the Democrats (even if their candidate is Rob Reiner) don’t have much of a chance: 56% say they will vote for Arnold if he runs for governor next year; when possible Demo candidates are paired against Arnold he beats them by 15 to 19%.

Here is the poll (PDF file).

Arnold is unbeatable as long as he keeps enough of the right on board. Some of these folks in California are easily turned off Republican leaders, and there are danger areas for Arnold here: driver’s licenses for illegals, gay marriage, and guns. Also, there may be an initiative on the ballot this fall pertaining to abortion.

Another reason for Arnold to be careful on these issues is that he’ll need as many right-wing volunteers as possible to help pass his initiatives in the probable late-’05 special election.
