This, front page, above the fold, story in the New York Times on Branson Online, an internet-based public school that is national but was founded locally (Branson, Colorado). I find this especially interesting. Apparently, such online public schools--attached to sponsoring districts--are experiencing "explosive growth." This has become an attractive alternative for parents "who wish to supervise their childrens education at home, and for students who hold jobs or are disbaled." There is more to be said on this interesting phenomenon (related, obviously to charter schools and vouchers); I find it very interesting and will look into it and report back.
