Teachers’ unions flexed their political muscle in Georgia again, defeating a measure that would ultimately have aligned the Georgia constitution’s religion provisions with those of the First Amendment. The provision isn’t totally dead, but Governor Sonny Perdue and the Republican leadership in the Senate haven’t succeeded in shifting any votes in the month since it first came up, and indeed seem to have lost a few votes.
