Feinstein a centrist?

Give me a break! This article portrays Dianne Feinstein as a "centrist" or "moderate," called to speak for American women in the Roberts confirmation hearings. The Americans for Democratic Action (p. 14 of the pdf) don’t think so, embracing her as a full-throated liberal: her ADA score was 100 in 2004. (To be sure, her score in previous years was lower.) Here’s a more comprehensive compendium of Feinstein ratings, searchable by group and topic. The preponderance of the evidence suggests that she has moved to the left over the past few years.

Well, ya’ know, it’s all relative!

If you are talking about a constituency like one might find in San Francisco, I think you could call Mz Diane a centrist.

Didn’t she become wealthy (and thus a Senate candidate) by owning a chain of abortion clinics? Surely, those are the making of a "moderate."

In any political climate where the current administration is labeled conservative, one must deduce that Feinstein is a centrist.

To wit:

  • No Child Left Behind
  • Department of Homeland Defense
  • Prescription Drug Coverage
  • Energy Bill
....ad nauseum
