Higher ed stuff

Here’s news of a different college ranking. While I’m at it, here’s yet another approach to ranking liberal arts colleges.

And if I couldn’t spend the first day of class handing out a syllabus, I’d tear out what little hair I had left.

In th old days when I used to teach chemistry, I discussed my homework policy, mentioned office times ( don’t come without every homework problem attemted), etc. Then I gave an overview of the course matter.

On the way out students picked up the syllabus. It was never popular. Somehow, students think they should browse through the syllabus for the whole class, somewhat similar to picking up a church bulletin on the way in, instead of on the way out.

I think this is a good idea.
