Mongolia

This is ABC News account of Bush’s stop in Mongolia. This is the BBC’s version. All the jokes about Mongolia (fierce warriors, statute of Ghengis Khan, etc) aside, I think it is significant that Bush would be the first U.S. president to visit the country.
It’s location makes it important to us. Here is the CIA Factbook on Mongolia.

There’s a very interesting chapter on Mongolia in Robert Kaplan’s new book, Imperial Grunts.

Peter, you know you’re excited because it is the land of our forefathers, you crazy Hun!

I like the fact that Mongolia was one of the major members of Bush’s "Coalition of the Willing," since they sent us about 120 troops. Then, we awarded them a few million dollars for them to improve their military. Talk about looking a Mongolian horse in the mouth!

Next stop on Bush’s tour of major countries who approve of Bush: Yakutsk.

120? I would’ve thought the Mongolians could’ve provided more than that. Would a horde have been too much to ask for?

I am of Yakutsk. We are not country, we are city in Russia! How dare you mock??

I think Fung’s knowledge of Asian geography comes from playing "Risk."

Well, hordes aren’t what they used to be.

Actually, this was an unsuccessful attempt to disparage Bush’s geographic knowledge. Some can tell ’em and some can’t!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
