Martin Luther King, Jr.

Lucas Morel’s short take on MLK from a few years ago still reads well. Carolyn Garris notes King’s conservative legacy. A poll shows that the MLK holiday is less succesful than are his dreams (via Booker Rising). Here is his I Have a Dream speech, and the Letter from the Birmingham Jail. Lucas Morel wrote another short essay on race back in 98 that I have always liked. It is, of course, relevant on this day.

MLKs Holiday may be less successful to outside obeservers, but it is a big "WIN!" for government employees everywhere.
So many FED holidays makes for a low production work year at the house of G. Thus the real taxpayers toil in recognition of another day off for those whom have enough days off. And MLK, like Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, etc. fade into simply another choice of either: Friday or Monday as the optional 3rd day of the weekend.
France, Germany, we can beat you on the battlefield, economically, and now were coming after your sloth.
The only thing I miss about the military is the "96". Hasnt the greatest nation figured out how to take a day off?
I guess it is that free trade that keeps us on our toes!
Damn that free trade....
