Strengthening Constitutional Self-Government

300 Million Americans and Counting . . .

Mark Steyn says it’s great! Here’s to out-producing them!

Actually, I think we ought to add one more to those 300 Million Americans via adoption. Automatic citizenship for Mark Steyn if he wants it! Anyone who can write like that and with that much sense ought to get some bonus.

"Finally, even more important than ability to work, even more important than ability to fight at need, is it to remember that chief of blessings for any nations is that it shall leave its seed to inherit the land. It was the crown of blessings in Biblical times and it is the crown of blessings now. The greatest of all curses in is the curse of sterility, and the severest of all condemnations should be that visited upon willful sterility. The first essential in any civilization is that the man and women shall be father and mother of healthy children, so that the race shall increase and not decrease. If that is not so, if through no fault of the society there is failure to increase, it is a great misfortune. If the failure is due to the deliberate and wilful fault, then it is not merely a misfortune, it is one of those crimes of ease and self-indulgence, of shrinking from pain and effort and risk, which in the long run Nature punishes more heavily than any other. If we of the great republics, if we, the free people who claim to have emancipated ourselves form the thraldom of wrong and error, bring down on our heads the curse that comes upon the willfully barren, then it will be an idle waste of breath to prattle of our achievements, to boast of all that we have done. No refinement of life, no delicacy of taste, no material progress, no sordid heaping up riches, no sensuous development of art and literature, can in any way compensate for the loss of the great fundamental virtues; and of these great fundamental virtues the greatest is the race’s power to perpetuate the race."--Teddy Roosevelt at the Sorbonne

I had a Sorbonne once, but it’s healed nicely.

Steyn is our Twain, and we should indeed force citizenship upon him for our own good.

"Here’s to out-producing them!"

Out-producing WHO?

The Other.

Out-producing WHO?

Democrats, of course.

No, outproducing the Democrats will take more than conventional reproductive means--we will still have to be able to persuade our young, after all. (Though I admit that most "experts" seem to think that the political affiliation of children seems to mirror that of their parents.)

But no great nation can endure without the numbers on its side. We might think very seriously about this as we look ahead into the next decade and beyond. Not to mention that Russia is paying people to have children . . .

Julie,

Mea culpa. Some trolls (or one troll pretending to be 2 trolls) implied that you were being racist when you said Here’s to out-producing them! My response to the troll(s) was snark, not meant to be taken seriously. The "them" you referred to meant, no doubt, those who would convert us to Islam, enslave or kill us, a religious cult, not a racial group. On a tangentially related note, here’s to out-converting them!

Also tangentially related, I wonder what percentage of 3rd generation, 4th generation, etc. Muslim Americans continue to memorize the Koran cover to cover, pray to the iconic city of Mecca 5 times a day, etc. v. the percentage that becomes, as bin Laden so charmingly puts it, apostate, still believing Muhammad was a prophet perhaps, but not doing the mosque thingy nearly as often as their parents would like, carousing and boozing it up with their frat buddies, getting married, having kids, going to NFL games (that’s a dig at Fung, by the way) and voting Republican, thinking of themselves as Americans, born in the right place, who happen to be Muslim as opposed to Muslims who happen to be living within the geographical boundaries of America.

So, it’s not just a battle fought on the streets, but between the sheets as well?

You better get busy, Julie. You only have two children, right? You’re not keeping up!! And has anyone seen the latest stats on the Amish birth rates??!! They’re gonna buy up all of our land, ruin our economy (who will buy the plasma TVs, the Steve Hayward books, and low-emissions SUVs?), and have us all living in homes without electricity. Be afraid, be very afraid!!! And reproduce...NOW!!!!!!!

Craig Scanlon, I did my part.

U.G., In every hour, 667 Muslims convert to Christianity. Everyday, 16,000 Muslims convert to Christianity. Ever year, 6 million Muslims convert to Christianity is very good news, but how does Ahmad Al Qataani know that to be true? I have read this elsewhere
as well as http://www.amazon.ca/Next-Christendom-Coming-Global-Christianity/dp/customer-reviews/0195168917
and it is very pleasant to think so, rather than the alternative. Actually, we know of churches in Africa who consider sending missionaries to convert the heathen in America since American Christians seem to make no headway in conversions here.

I recall this of Steyn’s, too.

Kate, I hope you realize I was kidding about that. I think the idea of mindlessly competing for dominance through copulation really cheapens people and the sexual act to about its lowest possible state. Not to say that’s why you and yours really had children - I certainly hope not.

Craig Scanlon, I did know you were kidding. I was kidding back. Do you know anyone in America who reproduces with world dominance in mind? No. Our first couple of boys were so delightful and I was having such a good time raising them, we just kept going until my body stopped doing the job properly. Six only seemed like a large number on our rare vacations, or whenever else the logistics of a situation forced me to think that the STUFF of a large family was too much. I was good at mothering. If pregnancy and labor had not been absolutely hellish I would have had more kids. Isn’t that awful?
