Buckley vs. the Surge

THE NATIONAL REVIEW editor sees no evidence that it will address the real reason for insurgent effectiveness and the real threat of Iran. And the president didn’t explain why withdrawal from Iraq would be a disaster. I don’t agree, and I certainly think we should let the president make the call for now. But Buckley’s opinion deserves our respectful consideration.

Buckley’s head is still muddled in the quagmire of yesterday’s rice paddies. It’s a generational thingy, I think. Heck, he even lists America’s ongoing effort in Korea in the same breath with our lost "engagement" in Vietnam and the Soviet’s Afghanistan. Excuse me, but I’m not sure very many Koreans, in the prosperous south or starving north, would agree with Mr. Buckley!
Sheesh, will America ever put that damn quagmire behind where it belongs?
