Thompson’s numbers are impressive, but he may have, the blogger astutely notes, the popularity of a second-string quarterback on a losing term. People can’t help but imagine that things would be different if he were in the game, and he hasn’t fumbled yet because he hasn’t played yet.
Well, none of them have really played yet, with the partial exception of the currently sitting senators who have skin in the game. Kick off isn't until August.
Though no one's played, they have shown their potential. Romney has shown that his personal beliefs are screwed up. Guliani has shown that he may have a chance by positioning himself near the center, but losing the base. McCain has shown good policy, yet poor presentation. I feel that Thompson is something new. He may be that fresh face that can restore order and unity to the GOP under one conservative banner. Let him play the game and watch the opponents hide their eyes!
