Fred and Now Tommy...Two Thompsons and Counting

Tommy Thompson will focus on Iowa and health care. He certainly was a good governor, but where’s he been?

I’m not sure either Thompson will turn out to be that serious a contender, but the emrgence of some more obviously conservative candidates could have a salutary effect on the GOP race. In other words, it could compel RG to be more transparent and articulate about what he means by jurisprudential conservatism and what kinds of judges he’ll pick. This should be a consequence of party politics during the primary season: to force the putative candidate to consider and present his alignment with the party. McCain is maybe not so good at this given his "maverick" resistance to party politics and the way the primary season has been "nationalized" has made it harder for everyone involved.
