Andrew Ferguson lionizes a real amateur historian, James O. Hall. I am now, by the way, some seventy pages into Ferguson’s Land of Lincoln and I like it, although wish there would be more grit and sap to it.

What is ironic on this site is that those that abhor Lincoln for his efforts in keeping the Union together, appear to abhor those today that choose to attempt to tear the Union apart.

In other words .. not an intellectual. An intellectual is something that I do not really admire that much because those that call themselves such do not delve into real life, make life rather authortarian, and cheap. They excuse all the evils of the world for nothing.
