It’s all about "the non-negotiability of the American way of life." In some sense that must be true, but some might disagree with the sense Deneen means.

OK, I'll jump in where angels fear to tread. Deneen is partly right, in a way. Yes, our way of life (and that of allies) currently depends on oil; yes, protecting the supply has done great mischief in the region; yes, it was a bad idea to let Saddam (and others) control so much of that revenue; yes, our way of life is financing the enemies of that way of life.
