David Brooks wonders whether there’s a Republican response to the statist middle class agenda offered by Hillary Clinton. Where are the Hamiltonians who can speak to "the party of Sam’s Club?"

Are there non-statist Hamiltonians?
No; but there can be appeals to the middle class that rely upon the limited use of state power to promote individual and family enterprise and achievement.
I'd say we need more Jacksonians.

To some people Hayek was a statist. It's a word very much like "fascist", in that it simply means "somebody I don't like".
