Bhuto assassinated

This is not good news out of Pakistan. Benazir Bhutto has been murdered.

Yes, it's awful news indeed. It suggests for anyone who doubted before that Pakistan has become the new theatre for AlQueda. THE new theatre -- meaning that with their resources being stretched thin, AQ is surrendering Iraq as a lost cause. Another sign of the same is recent reports that the interventions of Iran in Iraq apparently are falling, being reported by US commanders there. AQ and Iran are allies, so the reasonable if tentative conclusion of all this is that Iraq is rapidly being pacified by the dogged stubbornness of President Bush. By Nov. 2008 it is entirely likely that he and his party will have every right and reason to claim "victory" in Iraq...not only over AlQueda but over our own domestic defeatists in the opposition party.

Certainly Pakistan now becomes a paramount worry. At least in their case we can say without contradiction that the government DOES have WMDs.
