Kissinger
Posted by Peter W. Schramm
Hnery Kissinger conducts an interview with Der Spiegel (don’t panic, it’s in English). It’s typical Kissinger, broad ranging and careful; yet he manages to say that it is too bad that in a post nation-state Europe they can’t ask their people to make sacrifices for the ware against radical Islam. He thinks there is a vacuum between Europe’s past and Europe’s future.

Europe also couldn't make this choice in 1939.
When I studied in Germany in 1975, I asked a German student whether Secretary of State Kissinger spoke in German when he addressed German audiences. He replied, yes, he speaks with a terrible American accent. He was astounded when I responded that he speaks English with a terrible German accent--"it's a British accent, is it not?" Nein!
Yes, well, Europeans have definitely chosen to reject their own past and base their policies upon a progressive utopianism that has great consequences for the coming decades. 'Tis a shame, though, that they have rejected the greatness of all of their own Western civilization.
