Community Disorganizing

It turns out that Obama and Ayers were out to change our system by using our schools to turn teachers, parents, and students into radical activists against our country’s pervasive oppression. From one view, this was just a harmless residue of Sixties’ fantasy, and it was a better use of Ayers’ time than actually being violent. From another, Republicans should ask tough questions about one of these guys actually becoming president. (Thanks to Ivan the K.)

I don't see that this adds anything to what we already know about Obama. What I find remarkable is the stupidity, the thoughtlessness, of the foundation in going for this. The foundation world seems to feature a lot of intellectual or analytic flabbiness - perhaps more of that even than ideological excess.

I don't know about you, Peter, but I'm really concerned about the pernicious influence of the notorious "Hug-a-Book" program for elementary schools. Good thing Kurtz is on the case. And the Great Books Foundation - sounds radical and scary to me!

For some information on what the program did, see the report linked below, table 5, p.14.

Peter, what are the tough questions?

Ayers is completely irrelevant in the American political landscape, and Kurtz is quickly become equally irrelevant in American journalism. Who cares what either have to say?
