Did you really have much confidence that the Republicans in the Senate would hold party line, and sustain a filibuster?

I have to confess I never had any confidence that Republican Senators in blue states would prove cooperative.

Far more important than the fact that a Washington, DC jury convicted Ted Stevens on a dubious charge, after prosecutorial misconduct, is the fact we might not be able to sustain a filibuster in the Senate because he has lost.

You're quite right. But if the Rats get 60 seats or even 59, we'll be in even worse shape than with 57.
