Alexander Hamilton

as prime exemplar of American opportunity and enterprise
is well recounted by Mayron Magnet for the City Journal. He may have been "that bastard brat of a Scotch pedlar," (Adams) but also he was smart, ambitious, and proud. A good read.

I have grown to think Hamilton the ablest and most creative founder...but even Alexander Hamilton would have a hard time as treasury secretary right now.
My favorite Founder by far - he has none of the virtues I dislike and all of the vices I admire. Towering ability married to tireless ambition is always a humbling and pleasant combination to observe. He reminds me of a greater-souled Coriolanus. Thank you for the excellent article.
