Strengthening Constitutional Self-Government

No Left Turns

We’re for Guns and Babies

The sensible liberal Galston notices that studies show a sharp turn in public opinion away from gun control and for life. He urges our president to give us a Court nominee who’s sensitive to our genuine cultural mainstream, which is a balance or compromise among opposing views and sentiments. He doesn’t explain how that can be done while still having no reservations about the conversation and compromise stopper that ROE (and subsequent opinions) is or at least means to be. We might urge the Republicans to be more sensitive and articulate when it comes to the cultural trends that are actually in their favor.

That assumes that will of the people still means anything. Where are the conservatives going go? Where are the liberals going to go? I don't think they care considering that less than ten percent thought the bailout was such a good idea (ironicly the ignorant masses were right on the money there) I think politics should adopt the inverse of the old TV slogan: The less you know.

totally unrelated to blog, but can anyone give me a suggestion for a good textbook with conservative leanings concerning the presidency? Thanks.

look for Sidney M Milkis. I read one of his books for an ashland class and I think he has multiple works on the presidency.

Mickey: In addition to Milkis, The President and the Parties - Harvey Mansfield, Taming the Prince; David Nichols, The Myth of the Modern Presidency.
