Rather than trying to eliminate the liberty that allows us to harm the environment, find ways to control its effects. Liberty is to pollution what air is to fire.

Pollution is to liberty what tyranny is to liberty. It works behind the scenes under the guise of freedom until one day you discover it has been killing you all along.
"Liberty is to pollution what air is to fire."
Huh? I believe the USSR had very little of what anyone might reasonably call liberty (especially the right-libertarian liberty=capitalism version), and they had some of the worst pollution ever known to humanity.
