Today is the 99th anniversary of Ronald Reagan's birth. I'm inadequate to the task of offering a proper tribute to the Gipper, so I merely direct attention to

Besides reading Steve Hayward's and Andy Bush's books, see Reagan's first notable movie, Knute Rockne All-American. The theme is the integration of ethnic Catholics into American life but moreover the evolution of an American identity (note the subtitle). It's also important that the priests teaching Rockne are scientists.
