Franzen's "Freedom"

I agree with David Brooks' comments on Jonathan Franzen's Freedom: A Novel.  While it is much better than the average novel of today, Brooks is right to point to its limits; it does lack "an alternative vision of higher ground."  America is more interesting than this novel.  Is the novel as "brilliant" as Brooks would have us believe?  Not sure, but it is worth reading.
