Pretty good New York Times article on Mitch Daniels. I fear that Daniels is sounding so honest and sensible because he is not running for President or that he is just too honest and sensible to be elected President.
Did you see this from the National Journal yesterday? Among "insiders" Romney is so far ahead of other presidential possibilities among Republicans you'd think had the nomination sewn up. Maybe he does, but if so, my sense is that the Republicans will lose the Tea Party guys. Perhaps the TP doesn't get Romney as the conservative he is? The comments below the article are show the debate over Romney's candidacy.
I bring this to your attention here because Daniels comes in second, although way behind Romney, in this poll.
Kate, yeah, I'm with you in thinking that Romney is a lot more vulnerable than you would think from reading that poll. My reasons are the same reasons a lot of Romney skeptics give. I think that as primary voters focus on the similarities between Romneycare and Obamacare (Romneycare is better but the similarities are all too real), Romney will encounter more and more trouble even as he is boxed in by his preexisting condition of being thought of as not very authentic.
I am not at all confident that Daniels will win the nomination if he runs, but I hope he runs anyway.
