Race

Discrimination in Ohio Schools

Student Free Press reports a study by the Center for Equal Opportunity which claims Miami University and Ohio State "discriminate based on race and ethnicity in the admissions process." CEO Chairman Linda Chavez said:

The study shows that many, many students are rejected in favor of students with lower test scores and grades, and the reason is that they have the wrong skin color or their ancestors came from the wrong countries.

If this seems unbelievable 60 years after the civil rights movement, it's because you're making the wrong assumptions. The study found that the universities preferred "African-American, Hispanic and Asian students over white students."

Now, if the bigotry seemed untenable when you thought it harmed blacks, shouldn't the same outrage accompany the revelation that it harms whites? Of course, it doesn't, because we've grown accustomed to the "soft bigotry" of affirmative action and racial preferences for minorities. But the principle of government preference for certain racial groups is just as loathsome to American morality as ever.

Blacks are given opportunity after opportunity and still fail. I guess what all of them need is more food stamps.

Let's keep going the way we have been, and the entire nation will be just like Detroit.

Nice article, thanks for the information.

Coming soon...... to a neighborhood near you....National White History Month.

The time has come to get off this ridiculous PC mule-train. The whites will reach the boiling point and commence with litigation due to blatant discrimination!. The sooner the better with all the "racist" behavior coming out of DC.

As an "old" Buckeye, nothing can surprise re: OSU.

This is not news. This type of discrimination has been going on for years in the Stupid State. U.C. Berkeley is a bastion of this type of discrimination. To those of you really interested in this topic, there is great book called "Losing the Race" by none other than John McWhorter, U.C. Berkeley's first African American Professor. He taught at Berkeley and his stories are food for thought.

This racial spoils system has been in operation for decades, actually. Does no one remember the lawsuit against the Univ. of Michigan and its law school? Thanks, Sandra Day, for giving us another 25 years of this corrupt nonsense.

"If this seems unbelievable 60 years after the civil rights movement, it's because you're making the wrong assumptions."

Actually, I had made the assumption that this post (and the article it links to) would be about allegations that white people were being discriminated against in favor of blacks and Others who are supposedly intellectually inferior (conservative love for The Bell Curve, anyone?). Considering the poster, it was a rather safe assumption. The organization that did the study is a right-wing outfit (can you admit that much Justin?) headed by Reaganite Linda Chavez and the "news" source used to promote it is run by National Review's John J. Miller.

Also, anyone who's ever been to Miami of Ohio knows that it's an overwhelmingly white institution.

Stephen Bell (who authored the Student Free Press article) should be taught that in the age of the intertubes, reporting on a think tank's report without offering a link to it is in very poor form (or at least very, very lazy).

The purpose of this sort of report is to gin up racial resentment, and the first comment from "Whackajig" (think about the name folks... strain your brains for a sec) indicates that the dissemination of the report's conclusion is doing just that.

This BS was existed for as long as I can remember...it is reverse racism and can't be sugar-coated or justified and lacks all credibility. These obscene practices, under the thinly veiled guise of fairness, only have served to perpetuate racial discord and resentment while allowing unqualified persons to displace people more aptly suited for the task, simply because they have the wrong skin-tone. I know about the old tired argument about re-dressing...how long is this supposed to go on and what about all the others throughout history that have been wronged? This has merely become a cottage industry of the left and everyone is well aware.

Good takedown.

Still I doubt "Wackajig" bothered to read the report with the sort of scrutiny you just applied.

The purpose of the report may be to jin up racial resentment but I kind of doubt it. It might have that effect but that would certainly cut both ways.

Posters like "Wackajig" or "Hal Host" tend to help your argument, more than hurt it.

I would say that the purpose of the report is to jin up support for Ohio Senate Bill 5, by undermining Ohio State, and the state actors that run it, and would be affected by the bill.

I always figured that one reason for inflation, i.e. the fed action and why/how the so called phillips curve worked was to basically dilute labor contracts that would be impossible to re-negotiate for lower amounts.

One sensible reason I think for all the anger over SB 5 and other bills in Wisconsin is that contracts and wages are already being dilluted by inflation.

That is in the scheme of things the federal reserve is already renegotiating labor contracts nationwide.

I think judging by "protest", devalueing the dollar is the easiest way to renegotiate.

John and Craig, you are both blowhards. So-called "reverse discrimination" exists at every level in academe. It's been documented so many times (in the courts as well as the press) that it is undeniable.

As for Miami being overwhelming white, I wouldn't know. What I do know is that race should play no role in enrollments or hiring. If the quality of black scholarship I've seen is a product of this system, we are much better off without it.

As for the Bell Curve, I've seen various critiques of it, but none that really hold water. Whatever the truth of the matter, I know that black people are ultimately better off relying on their own abilities without the help of patronizing (oh so helpful) white liberals.

Come on Scanlon - waiting for you to entrall us with your acumen on the non-civility of the demostrations in Wisconsin.. If I remember correctly you had a lot to say about the issues in Arizona. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.
