Etta James

Etta James has died.  She was 73 years old.  She once said: "A lot of people think the blues is depressing, but that's not the blues I'm singing.  When I'm singing the blues, I'm singing life.  people that can't stand to listen to the blues, they've got to be phonies."  Her best song was At Last.  RIP.

I'll tell you I blinked with shock some years back when I found that a whole cadre of young, devoutly Christian women I knew were big fans of Etta James. It was a surprise, but I was delighted.

Why would that have been a surprise to you?

How did they find her? YouTube, that's what they tell me.
