Teachers unions flexed their political muscle in Georgia again, defeating a measure that would ultimately have aligned the Georgia constitutions religion provisions with those of the First Amendment. The provision isnt totally dead, but Governor Sonny Perdue and the Republican leadership in the Senate havent succeeded in shifting any votes in the month since it first came up, and indeed seem to have lost a few votes.
