College admissions

I’ll just put this out here for now, and comment later. It’s a WaPo piece on college admission and why parents are "up in arms."

My own parents had absolute faith in education, assuming my education was the same as they had experienced (long, long ago). Now, if parents of college students today are assuming their own experience is to be repeated by their children, maybe the backlash is not only a result of present problems; maybe it is also a response to experiences now many years old.

My own daughter suffers an English professor who is obsessed with sex (necrophilia seems to be a favorite). The girls in his class roll their eyes at the mention of his name. I can assure you that when my daughter has to pay for her own daughter’s education she will remember her experience. She will be very particular about what she gets for her money. More particular than I was. Maybe I can make up for my mistake by finishing her education elsewhere.
