The detailed analysis from the Post reads like a propoganda piece for the enemy!
Notice how often it criticizes the Marines: the m-16s don’t pierce concrete, the tank failed to kill the enemy inside, the Hornet misfired on its bombing run, the Marines stupidly went back in for their wounded comrade not realizing he was beyond help, etc etc. Compare that to the almost glowing description of the enemy: they came there to die, they kept fighting even against incredible odds, they tried out some new deadly tactics, and they even have "delicate features"!
Guess we know who this reporters thinks are the good guys...
So "offensive in western Iraq" was an unintentional double entendre. The Marines are prevailing, of course, and the af Qaeda elements are having their death wish fulfilled.
