Man to head women’s studies

This may be a bit of good news. At least it’s confusing enough to seem like good news. The University of Washington announced this month that, for the first time since the women’s studies department’s creation in 1970, it will be led by a man, David G. Allen. He will be the only male heading any of the 10 women’s-studies departments in the country that offer a doctoral degree. He took the job because no women were interested, or qualified. Nancy J. Kenney, an associate professor of women’s studies, found this "depressing." "There simply aren’t enough women of the right type and interest to take over this position," she said.

Unrelated, but equally amusing, reserachers have discovered why cats
are such finicky eaters: genetics. They found a dysfunctional feline gene that probably prevents cats from tasting sweets, a sensation nearly every other mammal on the planet experiences to varying degrees. "Because cats can’t taste sweets, they’re cranky," joked Joseph Brand, one of the researchers. Also see Kipling’s The Cat that Walked by Himself.

Hear and attend and listen; for this befell and behappened and became and was, O, my Best Beloved, when the tame animals were wild. The Dog was wild, and the Horse was wild, and the Cow was wild, and the Sheep was wild, and the Pig was wild---as wild as wild could be---and they walked in the wet wild woods by their wild lones. But the wildest of all wild animals was the Cat. He walked by himself, and all places were alike to him.

I knew there was a logical explanation for my distaste for cats! How can you trust anything that does not like sweets? As for Kipling--nothing so captivated the kindergarteners I taught last year as my readingThe Cat Who Walked By Himself to them. I have an excellent illustrated but textually accurate version of the story. As for me, however, I prefer The Butterfly Who Stamped. That story will explain more about the male/female difference question than any women’s study program could ever dare to dream.

Then why does my cat lick Skittles, if she can’t taste sweets? I always knew my cat was weird.

The two stories are connected, of course.

I always considered Womens Studies programs akin to Hitler Youth organizations. Thier only purpose is to teach hate, politically correct hate, granted, but hate nonetheless.

I always wonder why we don’t have a Title IX for the classroom that requires 50/50 male/female ratios for all majors that we are not handing out H1B visas for. If equality is good enough for the playing ground, why isn’t it good enough for the classroom?
