Europe’s Welfare-Colonialism

No Pasaran has some thoughts on this by John Vincour in the International Herald Tribune:
"If the United States has historically had more success in integrating its immigrants than Europe does nowadays, it’s because the American work ethic makes greater demands on the newcomers than Europe’s welfare societies - at the same time that America offers a job-related payback in dignity and the prospect of success."

Lorain County Job & Family Services is about to start making food stamp recipients do something for their "free" food. It has been in the Ohio Administrative Code for some time (OAC 5101:4) but only small counties have enforced this provision. As for now people can just have someone send in a half-assed explanation as to why someone with no income can make their $600 rent payment. Also the Medicaid standard is going from 100% of the Federal Poverty Standard to 90% FPL. Boo Fn hoo.
For the lawyer types heres a link.
