Kevin Phillips on theocracy
Posted by Joseph Knippenberg
This weeks TAE Online column is devoted to a critique of the "theocracy" section of Kevin Phillips American Theocracy. The short of it is that Phillips doesnt like and doesnt understand conservative evangelicals, and that he doesnt like, and has some contempt for, the South. That its #3 on the NYT hardcover nonfiction bestseller list is unfortunate, for it "disenlightens," more than it enlightens, about this part of its subject.

As a native Atlantan, I appreciate your rebuke to Phillips. He and his ilk, who continually warn against the evils of the "Religious Right," apparently never stop to think: What would the South be without its faith? Whatever else one might say, the Gospel has been a much-needed force for peace in the South.
