Thank you. That was beautiful. The brass band at our town’s memorial service this morning was not nearly so grand. They sounded pretty good at the time, though. To hear a couple hundred voices from the community raised together in patriotic songs was a benediction. This fell on our local veterans, from the bent old guy with a poppy in his lapel and a walker to the young woman in a tank-top and shorts. We applauded them all for a long time.

It was a happy morning to be an American. I even got a little flag of my very own.

That was indeed beautiful. I was just telling a friend today about the Mel Gibson movie and persuaded her that it was worth watching. Our local ceremony in Apple Valley, CA was patriotic and unpretentious. We heard singing but were not asked to sing, unlike Kate’s ceremony. It was the first I attended in years, but I’m glad I heard the music you provided.

Our church choir sang "Mansions of the Lord" during worship yesterday. We didn’t ruin the experience by adding our voices, but did join in other patriotic hymns. My wife, who sings in the choir, had a hard time not tearing up during that beautiful hymn.
