Ramirez Cartoon
Posted by Peter W. Schramm
I have met Mr. Ramirez (listen to his talk at Ashbrook in
2005), and I have talked with other cartoonists. Look at this cartoon. Think of a mind that could conjure this...an old and somewhat creacky spacecraft, just like my father’s first car: a 1949 Oldsmobile, which he bought in 1957. Perfect. Oddly, in person, Michael Ramirez is an entirely normal human being (as far as I can tell).

The way the flag is shown would be a good response to flag burning. Pretty blankin funny. Our pubic dollars support this.
The shuttle is old (and overly complicated) technology, but it has kept some of the dream alive. Space really will be "the final frontier," and whether its a waste of money or not, I vote to continue the manned space program.
The major problem is that no one has figured out a way to make a buck in space. When they do, it will become self-sustaining. Until then, we need to subsidize it (but in a smart way).
