THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR reports that the Germans are no longer getting less religious. And they’re recovering some sense of their Christian identity, with the help of Pope Benedict XVI and secularist philosopher Jurgen Habermas.

Good catch, Peter. Habermass statements, of course, are the real (pleasant)surprise-"sign of hope." (I knew that he and Benedict had an exchange about that time - maybe the article referenced in the newspaper article is Habermass contribution - but Id never come across that pro-Christianity statement.) Its almost impossible for us over here to gage the impact such "defections" have, but you start with "huge." In general its more than "interesting" how this Pope has attracted all sorts of "interest" without the arts and personna of his predecessor.
