This Inside Higher Ed story reports the founding of the Alexander Hamilton Center for the Study of Western Civilization at Hamilton College, already noted approvingly here. Good for Hamilton, and good for the board structure that prevents the Center from departing from its founding intent.

On the governance issue, long ago Philip Selznicks work on the TVA pointed out the uncertainties, the unintended consequences, the plusses and minuses, of arrangments designed to hold organizations to their missions.
May this new center prosper. Its distressing to have this reminder that a focus on western civilization betokens a "conservative" agenda. But so it has become.
O brave new world, that has such people in it.
