More on the surge

At first glance, I find the argument offered here more persuasive than that described here. We indeed cannot afford to lose in Iraq, and I dont think that a "political" solution is possible unless our opponents are convinced that they cant achieve their ends through violence.

The sad part is that none of the proposals include confronting the outside contributors to violence in Iraq: Iran and Syria. As we discovered in Vietnam you cant leave the enemy a sanctuary without defeating yourself.
Were way past the part where we try to "convince" our enemies of anything. Its time to simply kill them, all of them. Every single one of them. If were serious about trying to civilize them, then we have to kill the vampires that prey and feed upon them. There can be no successful process of civilizing them, of reconciling them to a rough conformity with international standards of behavior, absent killing the jihadists. The jihadists must be destroyed.
If youre not willing to do that, then you need to retreat back to America, and vainly try to build up some impregnable fortress Americana. Good luck with that.
Heres another argument for you, Joe.
