The political complexion of the professoriate

Here’s a story about this study of the political views of the American professoriate. We are, they find, more moderate than some culture warriors have argued. But if you focus on leading research universities and liberal arts colleges, and on the core undergraduate liberal arts disciplines, the liberalism increases and the moderation diminishes. I’ll have more when I have a chance to take a closer look at the study, which won’t be until I return to Atlanta this evening.

Update: Just a quick note to say that this report shows that conservatives remain clearly in the minority almost everywhere in higher education (which of course isn’t news). And I wonder how "moderates" react in a landscape where conservatives are hardly sufficiently numerous to provide a counterweight to the other side of the spectrum.

Update #2: Our friend on the Northern plains. Jon Schaff, has more. I’m printing the paper and will study it more closely over the next couple of days.

Since most conservatives stand for permanent war, fear, torture, execution on demand, complete paranoia regarding the media, control over your body, denial of evolution and outright rejection of science it isn't exactly surprising that you have to periodically play the academic version of the victim card.

Personally, I find that torture and execution on demand are particularly useful in the classroom. Keeps the young scholars alert, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, just the way they should be.

I've always been a permanent-war-and-fear man myself. Sometimes I dabble in controlling people's bodies, but I only have time for that on weekends now.

I'm no monkey! If you don't like conservatives, you can take your sciency words and your orange mocha frappachinoes and go to Hell!

Peace & Joy,

Andrew

Well stated, Andrew. And I might add, as a learned reference, the words of Brother Theodore: "Science is only an organized form of ignorance." Who needs that?

Tom, who are you? Who sent you? Why are you here? Who sent you? Who sent you? Why are you here? You're all out to get me! Get away!

(But, can you leave your frappachino here, please?)

Science is a sin. Evolution is a theory of the devil, conceived by scientists to trick men and destroy religion. The fossil record was put on the earth to fool men and make them stumble into hell by their belief in such falsehoods.

I'm guessing WJB and Tom are one in the same.

Nice try Andrew, but hardly. I hope you enjoy visiting the local faith healer the next time you're ill, because you doctor is probably sitting in Hell with his sciency words.

It's an unfortunate fact of life, but much of what WJB has said above is very close to what present day conservatives stand for(dressed up in nicer clothes, of course).

WBJ is clearly a poser, and you obviously don't read this blog very closely if you geniunely believe what you just posted.

I read it whenever I need a laugh, and relax a little, because I'm just trying to add to the humor a little.
