A Good Look at the Numbers

Understandably, Hugh Hewitt looks for the best case scenario within the worst case scenario for his man, Romney. Anyway, there’s an outside chance it could happen as he hopes. It’s worth looking at the numbers and considering his analysis. 1,191 delegates are needed to claim the nomination. It’s very likely that McCain will have to struggle to get to that magic number even if he’s got a plurality of delegates at the end of the day.

Force a floor fight! That might be a good idea. It'd surely get all the conservative juices flowing.

Romney should demand that McCain promises to appoint Rick Santorum to chair the committee that will draft the GOP platform. THERE'S A HUGE BATTLE looming about that platform.

Tonight, Romney should just run down a brief list of positions presently included in our platform, and then note how often McCain has waged war against those positions, and aligned himself with Kennedy, with Leahy, with Biden and with people like Metzenbaum and Cranston. Then ask how can a guy who wages war so often and so ferociously against the GOP platform, pledge himself to defend and advance that very same platform.

I'd put Senator Straight Talker on the defensive PRECISELY on that issue that many delude themselves is his strength, and that's his honesty, his "character." The other candidates have given him a pass. They let him say amnesty isn't amnesty; they let him rewrite history on why he didn't support tax cuts. They've given him a pass throughout the debates, and that's because of his record long ago in the Hanoi Hilton.

If somebody intends to stop McCain cold, ----------- he's going to need to be taken on!

Which means ENOUGH with the passes, ENOUGH with allowing McCain's record in the Hanoi Hilton to obscure his Senate record. Stop allowing McCain's glorious wartime record to veil and mask his inglorious one in the U.S. Senate!
