Your post reminded me of an Obama stump speech I heard on satellite radio (fox news) the other day. It was in Pennysylvania somewhere. Opening remarks: "What a beautiful day the Lord has made." Perfectly acceptable to me, and all who heard it, including the media. How would it have been received by the media if it had come from, say, Mike Huckabee or Mitt Romney?
