Veterans Day & Marines
Posted in Military by Peter W. Schramm
Happy Veterans' Day. I also note that today is the Marines' birthday. I once read that General Krulak (I think it was he) was once asked why the Marines think they are better than everyone else? How did this thinking start? Krulak said, "We lied." In the beginning we just asserted we were better and ever since we have tried to live up to it. Not bad. Happy Birthday Marines!

Small correction (ok, not small to the Marines): November 10 is the traditional birthday for the Corps.
Speaking of quotes, and tradition (as in its continuation forward), I like Secretary of the Navy Forrestal's conclusion upon seeing the U.S. flag astonishingly raised on Mt. Suribachi in 1945: "a Marine Corps for the next 500 years."
There are quotes all over the place at Quantico, and one of my favorites was a Chinese order given during the Korean War: "Do not attack the Yellow Legs. Attack the American Army." (We used to wear yellow gators over the boots and trousers).
I knew that, but confused myself; meant to correct it, then got busy, forgot. Very sorry. Semper fi.
