Implications for 2012

As the next storm front rolls onshore out here on the Left Coast (truly epic surf outside my front window right now), no doubt knocking out my power again at any moment, I'm contemplating a factor in the Brown campaign that has attracted very little notice and comment.

Who was the last Republican to do well in Massachusetts?  That Mitt Romney fella.  It has been reported that he has taken a significant role in the Brown campaign, or that the Brown campaign staff is largely drawn from Romney's politicos.  If Brown wins handily (keep your fingers crossed, but the polls are simply incredible), I would think this would help burnish Romney's status as the front runner for 2012.

Does America have a Right Coast?

I don't think Romney ever lives down his Mass. health care plan. I think that caused conservatives to be cool to him in '08 and no reason to think he can be resurrected. The best he can do is a high cabinet appointment should the GOP win the White House in '12.

First:

Tim--great to hear from you. Where are you these days? Did you know that Eastman is going to run for CA Attorney General? Send me an e-mail.

Second, I almost wonder if Romneycare wasn't a diabolical farsighted plan to undermine Obama. Nah.

Romney supported man made global warming taxes, and I have yet to see him retracting those statements and calling for investigations into the fraud. I would not be suprised if he became the one, but what a hallow victory it would be.

Steve -- I sent an e-mail to your aei email address. Second, nope--I think only the Demos have long-term strategies and the best the GOP can do is play defense until they get their act together.
