Superb review of a superb biography. Did the book even get short-listed for the Pulitzer Prize, National Book Award, or any of the history awards in the academy? I suspect not, but have been gratified to see Norrell's biography receive critical acclaim among book reviewers (in addition to No Left Turns' Peter Schramm). Bravo to the Claremont Review of Books for joining what I hope will be a growing chorus of acclaim for Norrell's Up From History.
